Harmonization of anti-nuclear antibody testing (ANA) by indirect immunofluorescence assay: Results from ten years of UK NEQAS external quality assessment

The UK National External Quality Assessment Service (UK NEQAS) provides EQA programs to ensure the accuracy and reliability of clinical laboratory tests The analysis of UK NEQAS EQA reports for the "Antibodies to Nuclear and Related Antigens (ANA)" program revealed significant variability in ANA pattern recognition. However, the introduction of the International Consensus on ANA Patterns (ICAP) nomenclature has greatly improved harmonization in ANA testing by indirect immunofluorescence.
